Saturday Surprises!

Saturday was quite an interesting day for Kevin and I. We had plans to go to Gadsden and spend time with Kevin's mom and her boyfriend, Kenneth, at his beautiful house on the river. We were celebrating Kevin's mom's birthday. However, we had some errands and things to do before we left. Kevin cut the grass and then came in to talk to me. He started off by saying, "You know....I was thinking while I was cutting grass". Well, when Kevin says this there is no telling what is coming next. He starts talking about our house (we've discussed the possibility of selling our house sometime, because it's not big enough to raise a family in the future, but it was always just a passing idea). So, I said, "Kevin, is there a for sale sign in my yard???" To which he responds with a big smile. So.....Kevin put a for sale sign in our yard Saturday morning before we left. Now don't get all excited......we are NOT starting a family yet! We just decided to put the sign in the yard and see what happens. We figured it may take a while in this market, so we'll see what happens. If it sells, we'll buy a new house and if it doesn't then we'll be great staying right here for now. So...my house is up for sale! Okay, so that's the first interesting story of the day.

After we finally get ready, we head off the Kenneth's house. We get there around 1:00 and have a blast just eating birthday cake and spending time with his family. After everyone was full from cake, we decide to take a little boat ride on Kenneth's boat. We stay on the river for a little over an hour and then we notice storm clouds (and it was HOTT!!!), so we decide to head back to the house. By this time, it's about 6:00 and all of Kevin's family leaves except for Kevin, his mom, and me. We planned to spend the night and all day Sunday with them. Well, about 3o minutes after the family leaves, it starts to storm. As far as we knew, it was just a thunderstorm. We are sitting in the living room watching tv and watching the rain. Kenneth has 2 glass doors and 2 other glass panes looking out towards the river. We notice the wind is starting to howl and blow a little too hard for our comfort and it is raining so hard you can't see the other side of the river. The river is starting to look like an ocean because of the rain! All of a sudden, we notice the pine trees start to lean and then.......down they went!!!! Right in front of our eyes! There were about 6 trees in his yard that fell and knocked down power lines. The power went out about 7:15ish. We ate dinner in the dark and then Kevin and I decided not to spend the night (no power, air, or showers!). Come to find out, the power did not come back on until 10:00 the next morning!!! It was quite an exciting evening!!! I can't believe we watched all that damage happen right in front of our eyes! How's that for excitement?!?

The wind snapped the umbrella in half!!

These are 3 of the trees that fell between the house and the river

This is the view of the downed trees from the pier looking back towards the house
These things are the wooden benches that were sitting on the pier....they were blown into the water!
This is the tree that fell in front of my car.
Here is the tree that fell on the road past Kenneth's house that caused the power lines to fall.
These are the power lines right outside of Kenneth's window
Another view of the trees blocking the sidewalk that leads to the pier

So much for just a "thunderstorm"!!! Looks like more than a thunderstorm to me!!!
